How to Style Our Crew Necks

Fall is calling my name and that means comfy cozy crewnecks. These speechie styles are perfect for a therapy session where you want to be both mobile and advocate for your profession! However, sometimes I feel like my outfit needs a bit of detailing to feel cohesive. Here I have linked my favorite styling pieces to take your crewnecks from casual to couture.

1. Layer with a turtleneck

One of my favorite looks is a soft turtleneck or ruffled collar peaking out from under a sweatshirt! I recommend investing in a couple staple colors such as white and black that will match everything. You could even go for a bodysuit to alleviate bulkiness or tuck-in trouble. H&M carries highly affordable Black ribbed layering turtlenecks!

If you prefer short sleeves for layering and still want the mock neck look, check out Zara for High Collar Knit Sweaters in many color and texture choices! The best part is these sweaters can be worn on their own with mom jeans and booties! Very versatile and functional for fall.

2. Gold jewelry

I never leave the house without my Gold hoops! And if you have been following the Speechlyss blog for awhile, you also know how much of an Amazon girl I am!

So these are a match made in heaven!

I also may have an obsession with monogramming, but I think a little personalization adds a special touch! These Initial necklaces dress any outfit up and are unique to you! I have also noticed that they help clients remember my name during sessions!

3. Fun sneakers

Not to be dramatic… but please stop what you are doing and check these sneakers out! In love is an understatement and hint hint: all college students get a discount at Madewell! Just bring your student ID!

If you are past your college years and thriving as an SLP, these are especially great for our school-based speechies! Walking from classroom to classroom and be tiring if you don’t have the right shoes to support you! I have had great luck with these Sneakers holding up after a long day on my feet.

4. Claw Clips

Another key to success I have learned by working with adorable kiddos is how long hair can be much more entertaining than a speech exercise! Eliminating distractions can enhance the efficacy of your practice, and loose hair can be tempting for pulling and playing. Claw clips have become my best friend to avoid this and also put me into ~work mode~.

I have also come to prefer Matte Clips for a sleeker look. These Free People clips pull out some of the earthy fall tones featured in many of our new Speech Apparel!

Although this blog post looks a bit different than our typical grad school postings, we got a lot of feedback that you want more lifestyle content!

But know that application coaching and reviews as well as helping you reach your SLP goals are our primary focus! Feel free to send me an email at hello@speechlyss.com with any feedback, questions, or suggestions :)
