12 Perfect Opportunities for Busy Students to Listen to Amazon Audible Books

Amazon Audible allows you to listen to your favorite books anytime, anywhere. It is the perfect app for busy students to peacefully get their mind off of school and work. You can take a break from the stress to ‘read’ a book while still accomplishing other tasks and daily routines.

Multitasking is our middle name in college & grad school! Learn why Amazon Audible is the perfect audio book reader for you!

Amazon Audible is great for…

1. Passing Time on Your Morning/Afternoon Commutes

No matter where you go to school, you’re likely to commute for certain classes, off-campus clinic placements, or work. Boring commutes are the perfect time to get some pages in your brain! It’s a great way to relax on the way to and from your busy day.

2. Traveling Home for the Holidays

As a student, we don’t always get to go home much throughout our crazy semesters. But many of us do our best to make it home for holidays. I live a couple hours from my family, and listening to a few chapters along the way makes it feel like I get home in no time.

3. Long-distance Relationships

This app is PERFECT for those long drives or flights to see your significant other! All throughout this first year of grad school, my boyfriend lived 7 hours and 3 states away. We still saw each other at least once a month, but we both had very busy schedules. This meant that one of us was driving a total of 14 hours a weekend, and man, that drive can get boring! To pass the time we listened to audiobooks and podcasts.

I personally enjoyed audiobooks more because I found that I couldn’t find a good string of 5-7 podcasts I wanted to listen to the whole way. I always found one here, another there, but the inconsistency and constantly switching of podcasts could become a little frustrating. Amazon Audible enables you to listen to a full book (or two!) on the drive to see your significant other, and the time absolutely flies by!

4. Long-distance Friendships

I don’t know about you all, but even though all of my college best friends are in different cities, we still try to see each other as much as possible. But those drives can be long and tiring as well. I like to keep myself alert by listening to an intense mystery book to keep me on my toes!

5. When You're Doing Busy Work

Busy work at work, school, or filing papers at home. Regardless of where you’re at, mindless busy work can be a drag. It’s a wonderful time to listen to an interesting book while you get the necessary busy work completed!

6. Walking to Class

Oh the joy of walking to class! When it’s nice out, it’s great. But sometimes you want to pop some headphones in and listen to music. And sometimes you can’t stop thinking about that book you were listening to last night. This is where Audible comes into play – pop your headphones in and get right back to where you left off!

7. When You are Bored at Work

Are you ever desperate for some entertainment but can’t get out a book or go on social media in case the boss walks by? Put in some headphones and listen to your new favorite book. You can still get some work done and save yourself from boredom by listening to an awesome book at the same time!

8. Cooking

Cooking takes much longer than I think it’s going to every single time! Chopping veggies is the worst part about cooking, and seems to take the longest. Get through the boredom and actually enjoy cutting those veggies up by listening to an upbeat audiobook!

9. Cleaning

Cleaning is something I do when I’m stressed. I avoid it and avoid it, but when it comes time to avoid studying or writing a long paper, you bet your booty I’m cleaning until my apartment is spotless! Feel even less guilty about procrastinating other responsibilities by cleaning and listening to an Audible book at the same time.

10. Doing Laundry

Washing, folding, putting away. All boring things we do with laundry. Make laundry bearable while getting a chapter or two in while you do it!

11. Morning or Evening Walks

When it’s a nice day, going on a walk in the morning or evening is one of my favorite things to do. Nature is beautiful at these times of day, and you don’t have to worry about working up a big sweat in the sun. A peaceful walk accompanied by that book you’ve been hearing such rave reviews about is a fantastic combination. You will love this dual self-care in the fresh air!

12. Yoga

Have I mentioned the high amounts of stress that come along with being a busy student? Even if I have (many times) you don’t need me to tell you that! I’m sure we’ve all experienced crazy amounts of stress revolving around school. Yoga is a great way to stretch out, relax, and do something good for your stress levels.

But, sadly, I get anxious doing yoga. I love the first 10 minutes and then I’m thinking about all the things I could be doing instead. But if I listen to a book while doing yoga I get calming effects from both yoga and the peacefulness of listening to a book, and I totally let go of all the stress around other things I have to get done. Stress relief and self-care are super important in grad school, and I love the yoga + audiobook combination to ease my stress!

Do you like to listen to Amazon Audible books at any other time in your busy day?! Comment your ideas - I'd love to hear them! I'm always looking for more ways to sneak in some 'reading'.
